This is Dr. Haiyan Fu. I am writing to let you know that we are starting a research project to study whether
inflammation affect patients with MPS III.
This is based on the data of our recent studied in the mouse model of MPS IIIB.
Our results showed that lysosomal storage of GAGs triggers immune system and cause robust inflammation in the brain of MPS IIIB mice.
The brain inflammation emerges very early, before 15 days of age in these mice.
We have also found that treating these mice with a generic drug to suppress inflammation is beneficial.
All these suggest that inflammation has critical role in the brain damages in MPS IIIB,
and also very likely in other types MPS III.
However, the immune status in MPS III patients has never been studied before, is currently unknown.
It is therefore very important to perform this study,
since it will advance our understanding of these diseases.
More importantly, this study may also identify potential therapeutic targets for alternative therapies to treat MPS III.
Attached is the information on this study. If you are interested in letting Waverly participate and need more information,
please contact me or our study coordinator, Chelsea Rankin by phone or email.
Best regards,
Haiyan Fu, PhD.
